Why does Compress or Protect make text unselectable?
Strong compression and password protection rebuild each page as an image. That is what makes the file smaller or lets it be encrypted in the browser. Use the lossless compression mode if you need to keep text selectable.
Does Erase really remove text?
By default, yes. Pages with erase boxes are flattened so the hidden text cannot be copied out. You can turn this off when saving if you only need a visual cover.
